Dolomites / Alta Via 1

The iconic rifugio traverse. Someday this is the two-week story we tell; for now it is the reason the other trips are worth practising on.

The useful detail

What the trip really involves

The private-room preference, main activity, dinner reality, route logistics and cost gaps stay here—away from the inspiration cards.

Later dream trip

The walk
Full Alta Via 1: about 125 km · 12 stages · +7,300 m. Published stages range from 3 to 8 h; harder variants may use equipped or via-ferrata terrain.
Sleep
A chain of catered rifugi. Room type and bathroom privacy vary nightly; never assume a double throughout.
Dinner
Rifugi provide meals and overnight stops, but each hut’s half-board and dietary arrangements must be checked.
Cost pieces
Room and dinner are date-specific; fuel, tolls and parking are not yet sourced. Whole-trip total unavailable.
Season
Roughly late June–mid-September; snow, storms and hut closures can shorten that.
Back to the car
A linear Braies-to-Belluno traverse needs transfers; a later two-night sampler should be designed as its own return-to-car route.

What still needs checking

Dates, live availability, current operating status and the complete cost still need a final booking check.
